In its meeting on 5 December 2017, the Council of States adopted a motion on strengthening individual legal protection in connection with the automatic exchange of information (AIA) on financial accounts.

According to the motion by the Committee for Economic Affairs and Taxation of the Council of States; WAK-S (17.3973), the Federal Council should be instructed to submit to parliament an amendment to Article 19 of the Federal Act on the International Automatic Exchange of Information in Tax Matters (AIAG), so that concrete individual legal protection is improved in that if it is credible that essential legal interests have been violated, no information may be exchanged in individual cases.

The Federal Council proposes that the motion be rejected.

In its meeting on 5 December 2017, the Council of States (Council of Ministers) adopted the motion by 24 votes to 17 with 0 abstentions.
