Following the rejection of Corporate Tax Reform III (USR III) in February 2017 (see our article of 12 February 2017), the Swiss voters voted on the tax reform and AHV financing (STAF). The bill was accepted by the people and the cantons with about 66% (cf. preliminary official final results).

The Federal Law on Tax Reform and AHV Financing (STAF) includes in particular additional funds of around CHF 2 billion per year for AHV and the abolition of the special taxation of status companies (see our article of 29 September 2018 for details).

President Ueli Maurer explained that the acceptance of the STAF was an important signal for the safety and predictability of companies in Switzerland and a first step towards long-term financing of the AHV. The STAF is to enter into force on 1 January 2020. Federal Councillor Alain Berset also stressed that this would ensure the competitiveness of the international tax location (cf. video reaction by BR Maurer and Berset).
