At its meeting on 1 May 2019, the Federal Council approved the Ordinance on the Temporary Suspension of Customs Duties on Textile Intermediate and Intermediate Materials. It shall enter into force on 1 July 2019.
According to the press release issued by the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) on 1 May 2019, the Federal Council may - if the interests of the Swiss economy so require - order that customs duties on certain goods be temporarily waived on the basis of the Customs Tariff Act. The Federal Council had already temporarily reduced the customs duties for 60 tariff headings to zero on 1 January 2016. The current measure will on the one hand extend the existing duty suspension and on the other extend its scope to a total of 522 tariff headings.
