The Federal Tax Administration (FTA) published its 2019 Activity Report on 17 April 2020.

Thanks to new IT systems, the FTA has been able to automate various processes and reduce pending issues, in particular the reimbursement of withholding tax and the collection of VAT. At the end of 2019, almost 50 percent of companies submitted VAT returns electronically. The FTA is constantly expanding the digital processes.

At CHF 56.3 billion in 2019, the FTA again posted record income from federal tax, withholding tax, value added tax and stamp duties. Thousands of tax proceedings, audits and criminal proceedings were conducted.

The report contains further information on international administrative assistance, crypto currencies, the reports published by the FTA and its organisation. The report also comments on various tax policy issues such as the amendment of the VAT Ordinance or the reform of withholding tax and stamp duty, as well as on two Federal Supreme Court rulings.
