On 8 January 2020, the Finance Directorate of the Canton of Zurich published a media release in which the number of submissions, the number of cases settled, the additional taxes incurred and the average yield per case of the voluntary declarations settled in 2019 are published.
According to this, a total of 2,350 submissions were received in 2019, which is less than in the previous year (7,250). Following the entry into force of the cross-border Automatic Exchange of Information (AIA), the number of self-denunciations has been decreasing again. Subsequent declarations were mainly of domestic and foreign bank deposits and foreign real estate. The cantonal tax office was able to process and close 3,400 cases.
The voluntary declarations completed in 2019 brought the canton and the municipalities a total of around CHF 70 million and the Confederation around CHF 17 million in additional taxes. The average return for the canton and the municipalities rose slightly in 2018, from CHF 19,500 to CHF 20,500, and since 2010 assets totalling CHF 9.662 billion have been uncovered.
