In its session of 6 March 2018, the National Council adopted the motion "Increase in flat-rate deductions in direct federal tax to compensate for the explosion in health insurance premiums".
According to the motion by Jean-Pierre Grin (17.3171) "Increase in the flat-rate deductions in direct federal tax to compensate for the explosion in health insurance premiums", the Federal Council should be instructed to present a draft revision whose purpose is to compensate for the explosion in health insurance premiums by increasing the flat-rate deductions in direct federal tax. Article 212 paragraph 1 DBG is to be amended as follows:
Deduction of insurance premiums and interest on savings capital:
- the deductions for single persons are 3000 francs (today 1700 francs);
- the deductions for married couples are 6100 francs (today 3500 francs);
- the deductions for each child and each person in need of support amount to 1200 francs (currently 700 francs).
The Federal Council requested that the motion be rejected.
The National Council adopted the motion in its session on 6 March 2018 by 115 votes to 77 (with 1 abstention).
