According to a press release issued by the FTA on 20 March 2017, the first function for automatic information exchange (AIA) is available on the FTA SuisseTax portal. Reporting Swiss financial institutions can carry out their registration obligation there.
In order for data to be exchanged under the AIA for the first time in 2018, reporting Swiss financial institutions must register by the end of 2017.
The activation of FTA SuisseTax is an important step towards implementing the international AIA in Switzerland. However, registration as a reporting financial institution does not yet entail any data exchange. It is planned that it will be possible to submit AIA reports for test purposes from summer 2017.
