At its meeting on 28 February 2017, the Council of States rejected a motion concerning the elimination of unequal treatment in family taxation.
According to a motion by Didier Berberat (16.4019), the Federal Council should be instructed to submit proposals to amend the DBG and the StHG as part of the revision work on family taxation (in the broader sense) with the following objectives:
- Eliminate tax discrimination between maintenance contributions for minor and adult children;
- the best possible harmonisation of the system of child deductions for married and divorced parents.
In its meeting on 28 January 2017, the Council of States (first chamber) rejected the motion by 15 votes to 27 with 0 abstentions.
