In its session of 24 September 2018, the Council of States adopted a motion requesting the Federal Council to take measures to make foreign online marketplaces and service platforms subject to value-added tax when supplying goods or services to Switzerland.
The measures should help to prevent abuses, reduce the currently high VAT losses on online sales and services to Switzerland and create fair competitive conditions for domestic providers.
The motion "Value added tax liability of online platforms for sales from abroad to Switzerland" (18.3540) was accepted by the Council of States (as the first Council to deal with it).
The motion as well as further documents and the minutes of the Council of States are available here.
