Zurich residents with a gross income of between CHF 60,000 and 200,000 benefit from below-average taxation compared with the rest of Switzerland. This is shown by the latest tax burden monitor of the Finance Directorate.

According to the study, the overall income tax burden in the canton of Zurich in 2019 was 88.4 percent of the national average (100 percent). The canton of Zurich thus remains in 9th place among all cantons. As before, the cantonal ranking is led by Zug, followed by Schwyz and Graubünden.

In terms of corporate taxes, Tax Reform 17 (SV17) has already had an impact in the 2019 analysis year, with the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Vaud, in each case in relation to the capital cities, making massive improvements in the rankings with significant reductions in profit tax rates and making big leaps forward. The canton and city of Zurich have fallen from 23rd to 24th place without any tax increases. The ranking is led by Nidwalden and Lucerne.
