The Federal Council approved a new social security agreement between Switzerland and the United Kingdom on 11 August 2021.
The agreement largely corresponds to the coordination of social security systems in the new trade and cooperation agreement between the EU and the UK and is based on the principles of EU coordination law, which Switzerland applies within the framework of the FMPA. This is intended to ensure the coordination of the social security systems of both states in the longer term after the UK's withdrawal from the EU. This is part of the Federal Council's "mind-the-gap" strategy in the wake of Brexit.
The agreement is already to be provisionally applied after consultation with the relevant parliamentary commissions.
