At its meeting on 12 September 2017, the National Council, as the first Council to deal with the matter, rejects a motion concerning a change in the system of home ownership taxation.

According to the parliamentary initiative of Susanne Leutenegger Oberholzer (16,455), a change of system is to be made in the taxation of residential property by waiving taxation of the imputed rental value and in return no longer allowing the deduction of property costs incurred on owner-occupied residential property, in particular debt interest. In its report of 14 August 2017, the Committee for Economic Affairs and Taxation of the National Council (WAK-N) requested that the initiative be rejected.

The National Council (first-degree council) decided in its meeting on 12 September 2017 not to follow the initiative. The matter is now closed.
