The National Council adopted a double taxation agreement (DTA) with Pakistan in its meeting on May 29, 2018.
In accordance with the Federal Council's business (17,066), a DTA between Switzerland and Pakistan will be submitted to the two parliamentary councillors for approval.
At its meeting on 26 February 2018, the Council of States (as the first Council meeting to deal with the matter) had already adopted the DTA or the federal decision on the approval of the DTA between Switzerland and Pakistan by 41 votes to 1 with 1 abstention (cf. our contribution of 3 March 2018)
The Federal Council also requested that in future all comparable DTAs can be approved by a simple federal decree. The Council of States rejected this provision and requested that it be deleted.
At its meeting on 29 May 2018, the National Council also approved the DTA between Switzerland and Pakistan as well as the changes made by the Council of States with regard to approval by simple federal decree by 116 votes to 60 with 3 abstentions.
