The Federal Tax Administration (FTA) published its 2017 Activity Report on 14 May 2018.
The FTA generated tax revenue of CHF 54.6 billion in 2017 and conducted thousands of tax proceedings, audits and criminal proceedings. The total tax revenue of the Confederation increased by more than CHF 1.5 billion.
VAT income in 2017 rose by 2% year-on-year to CHF 22.9 billion. Direct federal tax contributed CHF 20.9 billion to the result, only slightly below the previous year's figure (-0.5%). In particular, the favourable economic situation is likely to have influenced the higher withholding tax revenue of CHF 8.2 billion. Finally, stamp duties (CHF 2.4 billion) and the military service exemption tax (CHF 0.2 billion) made a positive contribution to the result.
The Activity Report 2017 contains further information on international administrative assistance, tax policy projects (especially IT projects) and the organisation of the FTA.
