In the canton of Ticino, there will be a uniform regulation on the waste disposal fee in future.
As a result of the vote of 21 May 2017, the Canton of Ticino is introducing an annual fee and an additional fee per refuse sack (combined fee). This means that the polluter-pays principle will be given greater consideration throughout the cantons in order to comply with federal requirements (cf. Art. 32a para. 1 Environmental Protection Act, USG). Until now, half of the cantonal population has had to pay only a basic tariff or no direct charge for waste disposal in their communities. This amount is now lower, but an additional dustbin fee is charged.
